Jtree Appearance

Apparently I'm becoming less popular with my landscape paintings. I'm down to three watchers. Oh well. In other news I procrastinate and stay up too late. I need to finish this paper. This isn't that great of a landscape painting.

Implemented

I really enjoyed this piece and hopefully implemented some of the advice my dad gave me on landscape painting. The river could use some work. I really can't wait to be done with this paper on Montaillou. I don't know how long it will take before I finally enjoy writing papers. Hopefully it will happen pretty soon since the work only gets harder as I go along.

NHish Mountains

Getting some practice in with cloud painting. The left side is a bit awkward. I can never think of anything to say anymore. Oh well, i guess that is good.

Snowball Fight

I had such a hard time coming up with this and it doesn't even look like I wanted it too. The sculpture is inspired by Spirited Away. Life is going well.

Ferm

Oh no I'm behind by 3 drawings. I need to make room on my ipod so I'm looking through all my music. I had some trouble coming up with anything today. This week I will try to do more landscapes.

Flower and Garden Show

I went to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show today. Sadly it's the last year it will be held. I have been going almost every year since I was young. I tied with my brother for Best Design in the children's gardens when I was young. All the smells brought back good memories. I am planning to go again later this week.

I hope you die

So housing is back as an issue. We'd like to live in Trimble but the max capacity for a suite is 6 and we have seven. Our other option that I believe we will try for is an on-campus house but we may not have high enough of a lottery number for that. I couldn't think of anything to draw today so I tired a character. I ended up really liking this one. I listened to the Blood Hound Gang, "I Hope You Die" that's where the title came from.

Coastal Jungle Towers

I finished my new header for the blog. I was inspired by the lettering for Age of Empires 3 and Toasty(the tales of that pig). It took me quite a while to get it right. Today I meant to write about what I was thinking today but forgot what was going through my head. During art class I heard a song I always used to hear in high school art classes. I laughed as soon as I heard the song because it reinforces my belief that all art classes are the same. Critiques at the beginning of class usually take about an hour or more, a stretched hour, an hour that seems as if time passes like a slug. Today I came up with a solution; I need some way of fast forwarding through my life, not so fast that I couldn't understand it but just a little faster.

Another image inspired by Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Fire Hydrant winter

I used a standard round photoshop brush for this which is a change from the custom brick shaped brush I normally use. I like the results but I don't think it matters that much. The buildings really looked like fire hydrants to me hence the title of this post. Happy Presidents Day, everyone here is sort of bitter that we don't have the day off. I personally would have loved to have the day off. Oh well. My roommate quit crew which was quite a surprise for me.

Bridge in Fillmore

I did this for the speed painters unite weekly challenge over on dA. We had 30 min to rearrange the elements of a photo in a new drawing. I really didn't end up changing that much but I'm pretty fond of it for the time I spent. One of my hall mates suggested this website that's much like a horoscope but instead you find your "power animal" which says something appropriate about you. She wanted me to try it so I gave it a go. To begin you "enter the forest" which is a nice picture of a forest with bird sounds looping in the background. Once on the forest webpage the power animal seeker closes their eyes and glids the mouse around searching for a connection or anything that inspires them to click. I couldn't do it. Nothing clicked. I got distracted by the bird songs which looped so regularly that they made a sort of beat. Then I thought about the flower and garden show which startes Wednesday (I'm so excited). I thought of all the animals hidding behind the firns, all facing forward just waiting. I found this image really funny.

MediTerrian

Bother this took too long on a day when I needed to work quickly. I feel strange today. I'm curious how this week will work out. My mom made some wonderful cookies and cupcakes for Valentine's day. They taste so good. I hope this drawing represents a newish style for me. I want to continue working on landscapes like this one and in general give my drawings a greater sense of depth.

River and the mountains

I sort of followed a tutorial on how to do ariel landscapes. I didn't get it quite right in this one. I will try again

Jungle Walk

This is also inspired by Tomb Raider. I really enjoy jungles. I'm slowly getting back into and learning more in 3D Max. I'm really worn out, I'm not exactly sure why this happens to me but it's something I need to prevent. Maybe I should try to find a way around it, I mean I have to eventually. Oh well.

A little early

I sort of like this design but I need to experiment with some other ones. I thought a alien holding a heart would be cute but I'm not sure I drew it correctly. I'll play around with some other ideas.

Garage

Even though this is so simple, I rather like it. It would have been better to put a few fancy cars, dirty workbenches or hi-tech nick-nacs around the room but I could try that next time. I would be so excited to come into a room like this, all those textures and I just love shafts of light. This all reminds me of a Weezer song

Sitting on a Rock

I really like the way this looks as a thumbnail but full size it just isn't as pleasing. I copied drawn parts of the images over and over again to add hand-drawn texture more quickly. It's something I don't usually do but I liked the outcome. I hope the composition works.

Tomb Raider

Played the demo of Tomb Raider: Underworld again. I'm not that fond of the fighting style but I really loved the scenery. The water and jungle were fantastic. Still need to work on realistic spaces.

walker

My roommate showed me a wallpaper from Halo Recon which inspired me to try to draw a more realistic picture. Well realistic in that it had a greater sense of depth. I think I did succeed to an extent. It's something I really need to work on. I'm still a picture behind.

Helmet Head

I rather like this, obviously I need to work on human faces but the soft lighting I'm proud of. I worked with the textures before the color which I think changed the look a little.

Halo Wars

Really simple drawing but I was in a hurry. I think the eyes and nose could use a little more work. On a random note Halo Wars looked pretty good.

New Method

I tried a different method with this one. I layed down a rough sketch then used paint bucket and gradients to fill in areas of the piece with solid tones. I then built up photo textures and used a multiply layer to add color. I tried several color variations with more blue until I came to this one. After that I used Soft Light and Hard Light layers to define the shapes a little more. Finally I used a normal layer to fill in light and continue defining the shapes. Next I Stamped visible layers (alt + shift + ctrl + e) and used an Unsharp Mask to finish defining and strengthening details. Finally I used color correction and curves layers to change lighting and color a little. I like some aspects of this. I need to work on visors.

Snowy

Really bad posing on this one but it sort of makes me laugh. I coming to realize simply how far I am from being the artist I want to be which to be honest isn't saying that much since I will always want to be better. I'm not sure the work I do in my art class brings me any closer to that goal of being a better artist. Hopefully the composition and unity work will help me. I really hope I can take criticism and suggestions, I believe I can but when I see people in our class who don't seem to want suggestions I wonder if I am that way too. Our school is hosting some live model drawing sessions which I'm planning on going to. The representative from Art Center had suggested I take a class on figure drawing but there is no such class offered here so this is the next best thing. I need to start practicing a hour of 3D max a day so I can report to my dad that I'm learning some sort of "programing" and he should too.

Hurray

I'm finally caught up on my drawings although I'm not too happy with this. I started with a completely black canvas which was new. I have three classes on MWF. Two in the morning and one in the afternoon. Today I was in my room drawing, my brother called me to see if I wanted to go climbing. I said I couldn't because I had a class in fifteen minutes, it was 3:43 or so. He asked when I had my class and I said 3-4, just then it dawned on me. I had missed the class. No no no. It was a good class too, there was going to be a deaf person signing to an interepreter who would give a brefief talk and answer our questions. After moaning about it for a little while I agreed to go climbing. On our way to the gym a friend of daniel and I called to tell us that the gym was closed for a class. My brother decided to go to the sub instead. At the entrance to the sub someone called my name, it was my teacher. I explained what had happened and it seemed fine. It looked really bad though cause I had my climbing shoes in my hand as if I had just come from the gym. I need to get on top of this.

RoadsWork

I haven't done a road drawing for a while. I guess this is still inspired by Fahmi's concepts for Forza MotorSport 3. I'm not nearly as good as he is but hope to reach his level of perfection some day.

Tongue

Ok weird.

Wind Power

I really liked this but the composition is lacking. The line of rocks in the sun on the right side create an unwanted distraction I think.

I got mostly caught up on my Asian art reading (YES).
